The Daily Whatever, June 6: Fucked-Up Friday with the Opinionated Ogre

Fans of The Daily Whatever know Lawrence Winnerman and I are huge fans of The Opinionated Ogre. His impassioned, swear-filled political rants are the antidote to the legacy media that we all need in these fascist regime times.

So when the Ogre himself agreed to come on our humble podcast, we knew how to show up...

…as sock puppets, of course.

Turns out, talking about the fucked-up news of the week is insanely fun whilst cosplaying ourselves as socks.

For this week’s Fucked-up Friday show, none of us selected the whole Trump/Elon drama dominating the media cycle, and not because Trump is “not even thinking about Elon.”

No, it’s because the President of the United States and the Richest Man in the World catfighting like sophomore’s behind the dumpster after school is clearly the most surreal, fucked-up this going on. So we discussed the delightful dirt on that story first, and then dove into our weekly picks:

• The Ogre brought his signature fury this this story: Dems fail to subpoena Elon Musk — again. But it wasn’t about the lack of subpoena. The meta story is how, once again, the legacy media blames the Dems for failure, without holding Repbulicans accountable at all. Maddening.

• Lawrence pitched this horror of a story: Trump Appoints 22-Year-Old Ex-Gardener and Grocery Store Assistant to Lead U.S. Terror Prevention. Don’t we all feel safer now…?

• And finally, I spoke about Trump administration revokes guidance requiring hospitals to provide emergency abortions, a overturning of Biden-era guidance that ERs must provide life-saving care for pregnant women.

And the winner was… me! Turns out leaving women to bleed out and die was the most fucked-up story of the week.

But I think I only eeked out the win because The Ogre told his own family’s story, of how his wife would have died in 2006 if she hadn’t gotten exactly the kind of care that women will no longer receive. It was a harrowing story, for harrowing times.

This world may be fucked-up, but at least we have bright lights like The Opinionated Ogre and the amazing Whatevers in the chat to keep us sane and even laughing as we take in the news.
