The Daily Whatever, June 5: Parenting and Politics with Melissa Corrigan
...and the power of storytelling to change the world
Melissa Corrigan, she/her and her publication CounterStory Media are on a mission: to use storytelling to change the world—and people’s votes.
Melissa is multi-hyphenate as a writer and podcaster: A veteran. An adoptee. A mom of a trans son. Her voice is powerful and she’s not shy about raising it, especially to champion for others.
In short: she’s spectacular. Having her on the podcast was such an honor.
Here are a few of Melissa’s stories you should check out.
The first is my origin story with Melissa: she submitted “I Am Not Ruby Bridges’ Mother” to Pink Hair & Pronouns nearly two years ago, and it remains one of the best stories the publication has ever run:
Second is “I Was a Casual Racist Once,” a reflective, honest look at how it feels to challenge one’s previously held views:
And finally, Melissa’s pick for best GenX song of all time is also a gorgeous story: “Nightswimming” by R.E.M.
But mostly, just go listen to the podcast. I promise you will emerged inspired and fired up to go forth and tell your stories, and to do good in the world.
Thank you Füsun Aydın, Liz LaPoint, Robin Wilding, Mason, Storyteller, The One Minute Daily Boost, Karen Marie Shelton, Betty Boldbrew and many others for tuning in. We love you, mean it!!
Next up: Fucked-up Friday, with The Opinionated Ogre! Join us tomorrow at 10am ET/7am PT. You’re not gonna want to miss this one…
